Main Uses:

Used as a coating solvent, metal degreaser, aerosol propellant, polyurethane foaming agent, release agent, paint remover, and in the manufacture of safety film and polycarbonate; it is an excellent solvent. Also used as a refrigerant in pressure-resistant freezers and air conditioning units.

Storage and Transportation

Dichloromethane is packaged in galvanized iron drums, black iron drums, or storage tanks (tank trucks) in sealed containers, with a filling factor not exceeding 0.8. It should be stored in a cool, dry, and ventilated place, and in compliance with the relevant regulations of the People's Republic of China on the storage and transportation of dangerous goods by railway and road. During packaging, storage, and transportation, attention should be paid to checking whether the lids of the packaging containers are tightly sealed, preventing leakage from sealed packaging, keeping away from fire and heat sources, and storing in a dry, ventilated place. It should be stored separately from edible chemicals, metal powders, etc. In case of ingestion, drink warm water and induce vomiting. Firefighting: Water spray, foam, carbon dioxide, sand.

Health Hazards:

This product has anesthetic effects, mainly damaging the central nervous system and respiratory system. The main route of human exposure is inhalation. It has been measured that high concentrations of dichloromethane exist in indoor production environments when dichloromethane is used as a paint remover. The general population is exposed to much lower doses through ambient air, drinking water and food. It is estimated that about 80% of the world's production of dichloromethane is released into the atmosphere, but due to the rapid photolytic degradation rate of this compound, it is not likely to accumulate in the atmosphere. Its initial degradation products are phosgene and carbon monoxide, which are further converted into carbon dioxide and hydrochloric acid. When dichloromethane is present in surface water, most of it will evaporate. In the presence of oxygen, it is readily biodegradable, so bioaccumulation seems unlikely. However, its behavior in soil still needs to be determined.
